Silver Wind
A classic Silversea ship rebuilt in 2021 for the ice, with 149 suites, a butler for each and the four restaurants of the fleet. The ship Silversea sends to Greenland’s west coast each summer, from Nuuk and Reykjavik.
Silversea
A Silversea classic, rebuilt for the ice.
Silver Wind entered service in 1995 as one of the two ships that founded Silversea, and in 2021 she was rebuilt as an expedition ship: an ice-strengthened hull, a fleet of Zodiacs, a mudroom and an expedition team, with the suites, the butlers and the four restaurants kept. She carries 274 guests in 149 suites with 239 crew, and in the Arctic she sails Greenland’s west coast between Nuuk, Disko Bay and Reykjavik from late June to mid September.
Silver Wind moments
Silver Wind is the Silversea of the long lunch and the quiet deck, with the expedition fitted around it. Two outings a day in Greenland, and the ship’s own rhythm in between.

Breakfast at La Terrazza
La Terrazza opens aft with the fjord behind it, and the butler brings breakfast to the suite on the days the Zodiacs leave early.

Silver Wind
The ship that founded Silversea, rebuilt for Greenland
Silver Wind was built at the Visentini yard in Italy and entered service in January 1995, the second ship of the newly founded Silversea. For twenty-five years she sailed the classic Silversea routes, and in 2021 she went into the yard for the conversion that made her an expedition ship: a strengthened hull for ice, a fleet of Zodiacs, a mudroom and the expedition team’s spaces, with the suites and the restaurants kept as they were.
She carries 274 guests in 149 suites with 239 crew. The Vista suites keep the picture windows of the original ship; everything above them has a veranda. The Restaurant, La Terrazza, The Grill and La Dame are the four restaurants of the Silversea fleet.
In the Arctic she is Silversea’s Greenland ship: Reykjavik to Nuuk across the Denmark Strait and the south coast, Nuuk to Reykjavik by way of Disko Bay, and round trips from Nuuk along the west coast and into the Canadian Arctic from July to September.

The expedition
How a day ashore is made
Silver Wind sails Greenland with a Silversea expedition team of naturalists, geologists and historians, two Zodiac outings a day where the coast allows, and the town visits that make the west coast what it is.
The glacier fronts of Eqip Sermia and the icefjord at Ilulissat from the water, with the ice in every direction.

Silver Wind, in practice
The questions we are asked most before guests choose this ship.
274 guests in 149 suites with 239 crew. She is the larger of Silversea’s two Arctic ships and the one with the classic Silversea layout.
Yes, for Greenland. Her hull was strengthened for ice in the 2021 conversion, which suits the summer waters of Disko Bay, the west coast and the Canadian Arctic. She is not a Polar Class ship, and Silversea keeps her to those coasts rather than the pack ice of Svalbard.
All dining, champagne, wines and spirits, the in-suite bar, the butler, gratuities and port taxes, the expedition outings and the parka. Flights, hotels and spa treatments are not, and we build those in.
The Veranda suite, mid-ship, is the right answer for most guests. The Vista suites are the best value and the picture window is wide. We tell you the numbers to ask for.
Through Reykjavik or through Copenhagen to Nuuk, depending on the voyage, with a night before embarkation. We arrange the flights from Australia and the nights either side.

Tell us your Arctic, we build the rest
Every guest sails differently. Tell us what you are hoping for and who you are travelling with, and we shape the voyage aboard Le Lyrial around it: the sailing, the stateroom, the flights from Australia, the nights in Paris, and the offers we hold for Arctic Cruise guests. One specialist, from the first conversation until you are home.

Other ships we sail
Each ship we work with has her own character and her own Arctic. Le Commandant Charcot is the icebreaker for the North Pole; L’Austral and Le Boréal, her sisters, sail Greenland and the Northwest Passage.
