Expedition to the Edge of the Ice Sheet

Reykjavík to Greenland aboard a Ponant sister ship: Tasiilaq and the east coast, Prins Christian Sund, the Norse ruins of the south, Nuuk, Disko Bay and the Eqi glacier. Four sailings across 2027 and 2028, the Greenland to Paris flight included. From A$18,810 per person, planned with you by Arctic Cruise.

13 nights, Reykjavík to Greenland

Greenland, from the east coast to Disko Bay

No other thirteen nights show as much of Greenland. From Reykjavík the ship crosses the Denmark Strait to Tasiilaq and the Sermilik fjord, where the icebergs come straight off the ice sheet, then follows the wild east coast south to Skjoldungen before threading Prins Christian Sund, a hundred kilometres of fjord under glaciers and 1,500-metre walls. The south brings the Norse: the church at Hvalsey, the bishop’s seat at Igaliku and the strange ikaite columns of the Ikka fjord. Then the west coast, Nuuk and Sisimiut, the Eqi glacier from the Base Paul-Émile Victor, and Disko Bay, where the Ilulissat icefjord pushes out the largest icebergs in the northern hemisphere. The 2027 sailing on L’Austral ends in Kangerlussuaq with the flight to Paris included. The sailings on Le Lyrial and Le Boréal end in Nuuk.

We have sailed the Greenland coast and we know how different the east and the west feel from the deck. Tell us when you can travel and which of the three ships you have in mind, and we tell you which sailing and which stateroom we would choose, then build the rest: flights from Australia to Reykjavík, the nights in Iceland before you board, the Paris connection home and the offers we hold for Arctic Cruise guests. One Australian specialist, from the first conversation until you are home.

Signature moments

Five moments that make the voyage

Three coasts of Greenland in thirteen nights, with the ice sheet never far from the rail. These are the moments the voyage is built around.

Day by day

Thirteen nights, in outline

The outline below is the plan for the L’Austral sailing of July 2027. The Le Lyrial and Le Boréal sailings end in Nuuk and run the west coast in the opposite order. The captain and expedition leader reshape every day around the ice and the weather, and the full programme comes with the proposal we write for you.

Embarkation in the late afternoon. We arrange your flights from Australia and a night in Reykjavík beforehand.

Aboard L’Austral, Le Lyrial or Le Boréal

The three sister ships that sail this route are built to the same plan: 132 staterooms and suites for 264 guests on L’Austral and Le Boréal, 122 for 245 guests on Le Lyrial, every one with a balcony or terrace, an Ice 1C hull, French restaurants with wines in the open bar, a spa, a pool and a fleet of eleven Zodiacs. Each has its own page, and we tell you honestly which stateroom we would choose on each.
